<p><font size="1">A minicab driver has been sentenced at the Old Bailey
to thirteen years in prison for abducting and raping a 25 year-old
woman in Camden's King's Cross. Mohammed Elahi of Holloway Road
picked up the woman on December 18th last year in Camden Town while
              working for Euston Cars. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">But instead of driving to her home, he drove her
to a flat in King's Cross where he and another man raped her. The
woman was later seen running down the street naked and highly distressed.
She now has no recollection of the ordeal. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Elahi's associate has not been found and police
believe he may have fled to Bangladesh where both men are originally
              from. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Recorder John Nutting, QC, said to Elahi: "Taxi
drivers, whether minicabs or those licensed to carry passengers,
exercise a position of trust. Those who hire a service are entitled
to expect that when they hire a minicab or licensed taxi they will
be safely taken to their chosen destination. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">"This applies especially to women who often understandably
feel vulnerable on the streets of large cities and who, particularly
after dark, prefer to travel in the safety of a taxi or minicab.
On December 18 last year you abused that trust. The victim had been
in your care because the staff in the pub felt she was too intoxicated
to find her way home safely." </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Elahi, who picked the woman up from the Prince Arthur
pub in Camden, at first claimed that he had dropped the woman of
safely in Great Portland Street. But when he was confronted with
DNA evidence he changed his story and claimed that she had asked
for sex. The jury convicted him of rape by an 11-1 majority. </font></p>

<p><font size="1">A Dorset dairy farmer got a parking ticket from
Camden Council - for his blue Ford Holland tractor which has never
been more than twenty miles from his farm. Roger Yeoman was fined
40 for parking in April on West Hampstead's Iverson Road - but
assumed that it must be a hoax. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">Mr Yeoman's tractor has a top speed of 17 mph and
he has never been to West Hampstead. The trip to Camden seems even
more unlikely given that April was the height of the foot and mouth
crisis - an extremely trying time for farmers around the country.
              </font></p>
<p><font size="1">After Mr Yeoman ignored the ticket, Camden pursued
him further and then he realised that the number plate on the documentation
was just one digit different from that on his tractor. Things then
turned nasty when the farmer was told that failure to pay would
mean an increase in the fine and the possibility of a county court
              judgement against him. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Eventually, Camden admitted their error but speaking
to the Ham & High, Mr Yeoman said: "A dairy farm is busy all year
round and this has cost me in terms of time and inconvenience."</font></p>
