This project is about finding out what different people know and feel
about smoking. You can ask your friends, other young people of your age,
your parents and people of their age, your grandparents and people of
their age, some of your teachers etc.</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">For instance
you can ask them:</font></p>
<ul>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">What is
a cigarette made of?</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">What happens
to the body when people smoke?</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Why is
it difficult for some people to give up smoking?</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Why some
people never smoke?</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Why some
people who stop smoking never smoke again and others start again? </font></li>
</ul>
<p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">People think
all sorts of things about smoking: some of them are true but others are
not really right. You could show people some of the following statements
and take note of their answers. </font></p>
<ul>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Once you
start smoking you cannot stop.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">I can
just smoke now and then. I will never get hooked on it.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Smoking
helps people lose weight.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">If you
stop smoking you will put on weight.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Smoking
makes people look cool.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">People
who smoke are more sexually appealing.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Some people
could not relax without smoking.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">More boys
than girls smoke cigarettes.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">It is
more acceptable for boys to smoke than girls.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Most adults
smoke.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Smoking
around other people doesn't really affect them.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Most young
people smoke cigarettes.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Smoking
is not that bad. There are lots of other dangerous things.</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Smoking
doesn't really cost a lot of money.</font></li>
</ul>
<p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"><br>
Record the answers people give you in note form. Report what different
people have said for each question. Next look to see how similar or different
the views are and whether people of different ages or backgrounds have
different views. If there are different views why do you think this is
so? How do the views given compare with your own views about smoking?<br>
