World tour cancelled after terrorist tragedy - 12/09/01</b></font></td>

<p><font size="1">Madonna's live shows on the final US leg of her
world tour have been suspended indefinitely. It is believed many
other events have also been cancelled. All internal flights within
the US have been grounded. The Latin Grammy Awards, due to take
place on September 11 in Los Angeles Forum, have been cancelled
in the wake of the terrorist strikes on New York and Washington.
</font></p>
<p><font size="1">For what is understood to be a first, both MTV and
VH1 suspended the transmission of pop videos in the US in the wake
of the tragedy. Three hijacked passenger planes smashed into the
World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington on
Sept 11 leaving thousands feared dead. The World Trade Centre's
twin towers, one of the greatest landmarks of the modern world,
then collapsed an hour later. </font></p>
