<h2> International Women's Day</h2>

<div id="newstext"> <p>The 8 March 2012 is International Women's Day and the 101st marking of this day will see over 1500 events taking place across the globe that look to raise the issue of female empowerment and equality.</p>
<p>ERIS is committed to political empowerment for women in the countries where we work and we strive to include it in our projects wherever possible. Today we would like to share with you a report from the </font><a href="http://www.ipu.org/pdf/publications/wmnpersp11-e.pdf"><font size="2"><strong>Inter-Parliamentary Union and UN Women</strong></a>, which surveys the role of women in parliaments throughout the world. Since 1995 female participation has grown significantly in Africa (from 9.8% to 20.2%) and the Arab states (from 4.3% to 10.7%). However there is still much work to be done in the name of equality and ERIS is committed to playing its part in this area</font>.</p></div>
