<p><a href="#"></a>If you were to try and use Twitter to help link build for your site, you would be called insane because Twitter make all of their links no follow. What if there was a way that you could use you Twitters’ content, to create a website and link out from that website to your own site which is in need of inbound links.</p>
<p>Twylah is an ingenious idea that has been long awaited. The site pulls all of your content from Twitter and organises it into topics which is based on keywords in the mini blogs. Twylah also shows what topics are trending with each user. According to Twylah, my trending topics are: <a href="/">SEO</a>, Google, Facebook, Brand, Social Media and Google +. That sounds fairly accurate to me.</p>
<p>Besides Twylahs’ clever trending feature, it has much higher potential. I myself guest blog quite frequently, and have made a constant effort to link build to my Twylah page to help increase the worth of that site in Googles’ eyes. My Twylah page has a PR of 1, however I have also been link building to <a href="https://plus.google.com/b/103584357129967335126/103584357129967335126/posts">SEO Positive</a>’s Twylah page and they have a PR of 3! This must be due to where the links are coming from because the <a href="https://www.twylah.com/seopositiveltd">SEO Positive</a> page has a few links going to the page where as my <a href="https://www.twylah.com/laustinseo">laustinseo </a>Twylah page currently has none. This must be due to SEO Positives PR of 5.</p>
<p>So if your Twylah page does have a relatively high PR, then you can begin to use it. The first and most obvious would be to link to pages that need more attention in terms of <a href="../../search-engine-optimisation">search engine optimisation</a>, this is what would naturally happen, but also you could begin to sell a link going from your Twylah page, to someone elses and it can become an outgoing link service, all from your Twitter feed. There are a lot of possibilities with Twylah, and as your page progresses, its’ worth will increase.</p>

<p>This addition to the case study is a revision on how many people have you in their Circles. The last time I measured this, the <a href="https://www.twylah.com/seopositiveltd">SEO Positive</a> profile was added to 25 people, it now stands at 65 which is just over twice as much. For those that have not read the previous additions, here is <a href="../../blog/google-optimization-a-case-study">part 1</a>, <a href="../../blog/google-optimization-–-a-case-study-continued">part 2</a>, <a href="../../blog/google-optimization-a-case-study-part-3">part 3</a> and <a href="../../blog/google-plus-optimization-a-case-study-part-4-2">part 4</a>.</p>

<p>It would seem that all of the key words, except from SEO, have acquired a sturdy position in the rankings, the term <a href="/">SEO </a>has shot up quite a bit and the increase in Circles must have played a part in this.</p>
<p>I wanted to see the competitor’s profiles and inspect how many people have added them and the list is as follows.</p>

<p>There is clearly a correlation that states the more people that have added you, the higher you will show. This however, is clearly not one of the only factors because second place has twice the amount as position one. It is something that I think has an effect but there are other factors that make a difference.</p>

<p>These results are quite interesting. It seems that having someone in your circles does not help ranking factors. Those who have been keeping up with our previous additions to the case study will have noticed the drop in all positions. This may be because of the name change from SEO Positive to <a href="https://plus.google.com/108919010703043112939/posts">Lewis SEO Positive</a>, I had to change because of Google’s name policy, I also had a look at the competition and they may not be as active as my profile but they do have a lot more people who have added them into their Circles, which could be the cause.</p>
<p>Now I need to test out the ‘friends of friends’ effect on the situation.</p>

<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Having a friend of a friend that has the profile added does somewhat effect the results. Not extensively since the SEO Positive profile is still at the bottom of the rankings. However it does make a slight difference and for those niches that are slightly less competitive they may make a huge difference.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>Whether you’re in someone’s Circles or not (even a mutual friends’ Circle) it doesn’t seem to make a huge amount of difference, so my advice would be to not spend much time worrying about this factor because chances are it won’t make much of an impact.</p>

<p>Since my optimization efforts yesterday, I have had a lot of people add me into their Circles, no doubt because of the mass circling I did in my last update. To be exact 25 people added my SEO Positive profile to their Circles. Also as a little side note, <a href="../../blog/category/google">Google </a>picked up on my profile name, which was SEO Positive. I thought it was ok to have this but I was forced to change it to my actual name which is Lewis SEO Positive, a little cheeky I know but worth a go right? I have also set a nickname as SEO Positive, instead of SEO Services.</p>
<p>For those that have missed my previous updates, here is <a href="../../blog/google-optimization-a-case-study">part 1</a>, and here is <a href="../../blog/google-optimization-–-a-case-study-continued">part 2</a>.</p>
<p>25 people have added the SEO Positive profile into their Circles, a high majority of the new connections where already in my cCrcles which would most likely be the reason for the mass connections.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, there has been a negative impact for the term SEO, 5 positions where lost. All other positions have stayed put which is great. I think the position drop could be down to the profile name change but that is not certain, competitors could be overtaking the <a href="/">SEO </a>Positive profile.</p>
<p>Something I did notice is that the profile now shows up in the “Everything” section and looks a little something like this.</p>
<p><a href="#"></a></p>
<p>This is great exposure because it’s the default option to appear when searching, as far as I know we show up like this in the search results for the terms: SEO UK, SEO Companies and SEO Services. As I have not noticed this before, I did not even know this type of listing was possible, I cannot say what has caused this. However these 3 terms I show in position 1 in the people listings, which leads me to believe that it is strongly connected.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>Being in other users’ Circles appear to not have an effect on the rankings, however it will have an effect on whoever has added me and the results that appear. I imagine mutual friends will experience some change too, but I will look into this in the near future.</p>

<p><a href="#"></a>As a continuation from yesterday’s <a href="../../blog/google-optimization-a-case-study">Google + article</a>, I think I may have stumbled upon another factor that affects ranking; it is fairly simple and has more benefits than just a higher position.</p>
<p>The new factor is simply adding people. I know this sounds silly but I added everyone for the term SEO and SEO UK, which got me about 250 people in my circles. Now I know this does seem a little spammy, but it isn’t at all. You can follow as many people as you want on <a href="../../blog/category/twitter">Twitter</a> and you can do the same on Google +. It is a worry to have on your profile, “SEO Positive has 250 in their circles and 5 people have SEO Positive in their circles.” But you can hide this information from users so feel free to add as many as you want!</p>
<p>Like I said, I have added all profiles that come up for <a href="/">SEO </a>and SEO UK. Now I will use my account with no history to measure the new found rankings. FYI the previous positions were from the last case study which was before I added anyone into my circles.</p>

<p>From this report we can see that SEO services has shot right up the rankings and is now at the top, SEO is THE most competitive term out there in this industry, but it is good that some movement has been made.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>It seems adding relevant users has a positive effect in terms of rankings. Adding a huge list of people can also help with exposure, connection and if there are a lot of users that add you to their circles then it looks good on your profile.</p>
<p>The next thing I will be looking into is content (updates) and to see if they have make a difference. I will be doing one a day and I will record the results in an article next week.</p>

<p><a href="#"></a>Google + is the social network that just keeps expanding at a rapid rate. the last figure that was released told us that the site currently has a user base of 50 million, which is an astonishing statistic. It must be mentioned that G+’s rival, Facebook, has acquired more than 800 million users in its lifetime. Nevertheless, Google + is rocketing in terms of how active it is becoming. If Plus does become the dominant network, then businesses will be flocking across to join, so I am going to show you how to optimize your business profile so you can show up in high positions for key terms.</p>
<p>I have created a brand new profile for SEO Positive as an example. This profile has only a display picture, the profile contains no content (for example media or posts). I have also checked all of our keywords and we do not rank for any of them. Now I will do some optimization in the appropriate sections and see what difference it makes.</p>
<p>It may also be noteworthy that I have created another brand new profile with absolutely no history to measure the rankings in a completely unbiased way.</p>
<h2>Introduction</h2>
<p>I started off with the introduction section of the profile, not necessarily keyword stuffing, but I put in what I considered enough and made the box legible and of a proper standard of English. The introduction is as follows:</p>
<p>“SEO Positive<strong> </strong>is the award winning SEO Company based in the UK.<strong> </strong><a href="https://www.twylah.co.uk/seopositiveltd" target="_blank"><strong>SEO Positive</strong></a><strong> </strong>offers ethical SEO Services<strong> </strong>that are guaranteed to show brilliant results in <a href="/" target="_blank"><strong>SEO</strong></a>. For more information on SEO Positive, go to <a href="/" target="_blank">https://www.seopositiveltd.co.uk</a> or follow their <a href="../../blog" target="_blank">blog</a> or even their <a href="https://www.twitter.com/seopositiveltd" target="_blank">Twitter</a> profile.”</p>
<p>Now before I added this section we did not rank at all, as soon I had made changes to the profile, the rankings had changed too</p>
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">Keywords</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Current Position</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Previous Position</td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO</td>

<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO UK</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">11</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">UK SEO</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">7</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Company</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Companies</td>

<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>Just by adding this one box you can see the SEO Positive profile has shot right up, and although it isn’t ranking for everything, it is ranking for some key terms. Obviously the term “SEO” will be the hardest to rank for but we will add another section and see what happens.</p>
<h2>Bragging Rights</h2>
<p>In the next section, “bragging rights” I tend to write something similar to the introduction but put in some achievements to make it fit the context of the section. So my submission to bragging rights is “SEO Positive has won multiple awards as an SEO Company, we provide our SEO Services to a wide range of businesses all over the world, including the UK, which is where SEO Positive is based.”</p>
<p>Now that this section has been added, we will look at the difference:</p>
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">Keywords</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Current Position</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Previous Position</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Movement</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO UK</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">11</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">11</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">0</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">UK SEO</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">7</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">7</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">0</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Company</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">0</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Companies</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">17</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">17</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">0</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Services</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>From this evidence, it is safe to say that there are no “bragging rights” here. This section may have some effect but it is clear that it is miniscule and hardly worth the time.</p>
<h2>Occupation</h2>
<p>Now I am going to try and add the appropriate occupation and see what effect that has: ‘SEO Services’.</p>
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">Keywords</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Current Position</td>

<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO UK</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">11</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">+1</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">UK SEO</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">7</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">7</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">0</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Company</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">0</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Companies</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">9</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">17</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">+8</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Services</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>Adding the occupation seems to have had a mixed set of results. The bonus is that nothing has fallen but some positions have stayed put. ‘SEO’ has raised and is now on the listings, yet ‘SEO Services’ is holding its ground.</p>
<h2>Employment</h2>
<p>We now approach the section of Employment. I have added the name of the company (SEO Positive) and for occupation I entered SEO Services. SEO Services is the keyword that the SEO Positive profile is not ranking for; this keyword also fits the context of the field quite well.</p>
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">Keywords</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Current Position</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Previous Position</td>

</tr>
<tr>

<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO UK</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">9</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">+1</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">UK SEO</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">6</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">7</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">+1</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Company</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">11</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">-1</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Companies</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">4</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">9</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">+5</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Services</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">150</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>The employment section has had a surprising impact. Everything is now ranking, most search terms are rising, ‘SEO company’ fell by 1 rank but this could be due to competitors or other uncontrollable reasons. All in all the completion of the employment section has had a great effect.</p>
<h2>Other Names</h2>
<p>Education comes next but I want to take the white hat method in optimizing my Google+ profile, so I will leave this blank as it is irrelevant. Then comes the phone number, so I have entered SEO Positive’s office number. The ‘relationship’ and ‘looking for’ are also immaterial so the next field that can be used for SEO will be the ‘other names’ section. I am going to put all keywords in this section.</p>
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">Keywords</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">Current Position</td>

<tr>

</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Services</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">150</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>Adding this other names section seems to have had a negative effect, my thoughts of this decline in positions is because Google has to index all of these changes, which resulted in massive jumps in positions, especially for ‘SEO’ and ‘SEO Services’. Adding the other name would appear to have had a positive effect on ‘SEO Company’ but the 1 position increase doesn’t make up for the rest of the losses.</p>
<h2>Nicknames</h2>
<p>As the end of optimization approaches, we come to the ‘nicknames’ section. I have set it as ‘SEO Services’ because again, this is a term that hasn’t ranked.</p>
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">Keywords</td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">UK SEO</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">2</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">6</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">+4</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Company</td>

<td width="154" valign="top">10</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">+8</td>

<tr>
<td width="154" valign="top">SEO Services</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">150</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>Just adding the nickname section has had a great effect on the rankings, I think it is safe to say that ‘SEO’ and ‘SEO Services’ are going to be very competitive, like in the real Google SERP’s.</p>
<h2>Profiles, Links and Contributions</h2>
<p>There is only one more thing that can be done in terms of the profile, which is adding other profiles - websites that you contribute to and recommended links. I will add all of these at the same time as it is far too fiddly to do them one by one, also I will link to only SEO Positives’ profiles, the site and all blogs associated.</p>
<table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tbody>

<td width="154" valign="top">Keywords</td>

<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">150</td>
<td width="154" valign="top">N/A</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>From these results we can see that no difference had been made by adding links or profiles. It seems that these parts of the profile are purely for the user.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>All of these factors have had different levels of impact, but based on the differences that have been displayed, here is a list of each factor and the severity of their importance:</p>
<p>Introduction - *****</p>
<p>Bragging Rights - *</p>
<p>Occupation - **</p>
<p>Employment - ****</p>
<p>Other Names - *</p>
<p>Nicknames - ****</p>
<p>Profiles Links Contributions - *</p>
<p>So I can conclude that the most important sections of the Google Plus profile are the Introduction, Employment and the Nicknames. However I would not advise leaving the other parts out as it may result in weaker positions; also it lowers how useful your profile will be to users viewing it.</p>
<p>As a revision of all of the positions, I want to check the positions once more as the positions would have had time to settle and we can take all of the optimization efforts and put them together.</p>

<p>If we look back to where we started before we even optimized the profile, SEO Positive has raised a substantial amount. Taking into account that this profile is brand new and has no posts or media, it has acquired great positions. The only way to increase the ranking is to keep the profile active and consciously include the correct keywords in posts. As time goes on we should definitely see an even bigger rise in positions.</p>

<p><a href="#"></a>The big G has finally confirmed it; we have another Panda to deal with. The algorithm has been officially updated, estimated at 500 different updates, and according to Search Engine Land, we are in the age of 2.5.</p>
<p>It shouldn’t be a surprise that no specifics have been released. The type of website, pages or even content have been shared, all that was shared was Googles’ default statement: “We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to <a href="../../blog/category/google">Google </a>users. This most recent update is one of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.”</p>
<p>According to WebProNews, the update was rolled out on the 28th of September, but there are a handful of other sources that suggest the Panda was released on the 27th. If we take WebProNews’ statement, then the 2.5 update has had the longest gap we have seen since Aprils’ update.</p>

<p>Many <a href="/">SEO</a>’s are just catching wind of the update because as we all know, it can take a while for your site to be affected. Alike all of the previous updates, sites have seen a dramatic change. Now is the time for those that have fallen of the face of the earth to recover, and for those who have passed their Panda test, to sit back and enjoy the massive increase of traffic.<br/>

<div class="tweetmeme_button" style="float: right; margin-left: 10px;"><iframe src="https://api.tweetmeme.com/button.js?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.seopositiveltd.co.uk%2Fblog%2Fhow-does-social-media-influence-seo-and-serps&style=normal&b=2" height="61" width="50" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: normal;">When businesses design an Internet marketing budget, search engine optimization (SEO), insofar as it increases rankings on search engine result pages (SERPs), is a common, if not mandatory, consideration. Marketers go to great lengths to select the appropriate keywords and densities for article marketing, and building robust sets of articles and back links featuring these keywords is a priority. An oft-overlooked way of increasing SEO, namely the development of a social media presence, may well become the most vital of techniques as social media continues to grow and become a major Internet service offering.</span></p>
<h2>The Major Players</h2>
<p><a href="../../blog/category/google">Google </a>and Bing have both publicly confirmed that links shared through social media, particularly links with a high degree of activity in the form of comments, likes, and reshares, impact search engine optimization. Taking into account user +1′s through the Google+ network is at least partially responsible for some of the recent shakeup in search engine rankings associated with Google’s Panda update.</p>
<p>Search engine optimization has evolved to be a more holistic marketing effort. Utilizing all of the marketing means at your disposal means developing a robust social presence, strong article marketing efforts, keywords and links shared widely across the Internet, and companion blogs, developed by the marketer, which share additional blog posts and back links to the main site. It’s no longer enough to simply stuff keywords to a particular density and hope the search engines pick up the pages. You may have even seen a steady decrease of your search engine result placement for existing pages developed and marketing in this fashion.</p>
<h2>How to Win the Game</h2>
<p>Enhancing your existing <a href="/">SEO </a>by sharing your articles on a social site and encouraging users to comment and like the pages does not take an extremely strong existing social presence to be effective. To start with no additional time commitment, you can share links with the fans you already have by automatically syndicating your blog’s RSS feed to your <a href="../../blog/category/facebook">Facebook </a>page. A more effective way to address the social aspect of the network is to write an additional 20-30 words on any article that you are posting to your blog, particularly a thought-provoking summary that invites questions, and using this as a lead-in to your article link on Facebook or Google+.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, if your article marketing efforts are primarily composed of low-quality, spun article content, you won’t see the kind of social activity necessary to achieve solid search engine optimization from your social networks. This is why it’s becoming crucial to develop quality content, rather than barely-readable computer-generated content. Link-bait articles, or articles designed to be widely shared, benefit your search engine optimization efforts more than any other article marketing due to the benefits of social sharing.</p>
<p>Remember these two key features of social networks. First, they often pull the meta description when your link is shared, so really play up your meta tags. Second, you need to make sure that you are using a URL shortener that does a 301 redirect to your page. A good example is bit.ly.</p>
<p>It’s a known fact that Google and Bing have been using activity on Facebook since at least 2010 to influence search engine rankings. Failing to take advantage of social media, particularly now, as the medium is emerging and it is easy to develop a strong following, is a common oversight by SEO experts, some of which are stuck in traditional article marketing strategies, others who do not realize the additional SEO benefit that social sharing creates. Avoid these pitfalls by developing a social presence early on all of the popular social networking sites, including Facebook, Google+, and Twitter.</p>

<h2><a href="../../blog/simple-competition-analysis-for-seo" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to Simple competition analysis for SEO">Simple competition analysis for SEO</a></h2>

<div class="tweetmeme_button" style="float: right; margin-left: 10px;"><iframe src="https://api.tweetmeme.com/button.js?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.seopositiveltd.co.uk%2Fblog%2Fsimple-competition-analysis-for-seo&style=normal&b=2" height="61" width="50" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe></div>
<p>Analysing the search results before you jump in is something that can save you months of pain down the road. I found this out with my first <a href="/">seo</a> project where I decided to rank for the phrase “web hosting” using my new adsense supported review blog. I had no concept of competition or the fact that some niches can take years to conquer. So is it really possible to work out how much competition there is in a market before getting involved? Well its not an exact science but it is possible to get an idea whether you should dive in or not.</p>
<h2>Putting a number on the links</h2>
<p>Numbers are always a nice place to start since it gives you a solid target to beat. Even though the type of links your competition has is very important (as I will talk about next) its still vital to count volume. So the mistake many webmasters make is just looking at the overall backlink count using the link: command in yahoo or google. <a href="../../blog/category/google">Google </a>only shows a fraction of the links and yahoo counts more than on link from the same domain, for instance if you get a site wide link on a blog with a 1000 pages yahoo would say that’s a 1000 links. We know that a 1000 links from one site is not the same as 1 link from a 1000 sites so we cant use this data. Instead we want to know the number of unique domains (sites) that are linking to our competitor, a good place to do this is open site explorer by seomoz, you just plugin your main competitor and it throws you back a nice number under “linking root domains”. I believe that the total number of linking domains is a key factor so if this number looks unrealistic you may need to think again.</p>
<h2>Quality or questionable links?</h2>
<p>Its important to get an idea of what type of links your competition has because quality seems to become a bigger issue with every google update. What I look for is an overview of the type of links they are getting and if they are all coming from the same neighbourhood, for example are they all from footer links in WordPress themes? Or maybe most of their links are from forum profiles? These kind of links are easy to spot in either open site explorer or even yahoo and to me is a real sign of a short term link building strategy, but more importantly I know its a profile I can beat with just a few quality links. As mentioned what your really trying to do is get an overview and not trying to analyse every link in detail. You could get lost for days trying to give a value to each link, plus remember that only Google knows the true weight of any backlink.</p>
<h2>Authority domain or specialist site?</h2>
<p>I like to put every site I find in the results into one of two categories. The first is a big authority domain with maybe a single page on the subject like eBay or Amazon and the other is a smaller niche site which may have hundreds of pages dedicated to the niche. So many marketers see the bigger authority sites and give up straight away but I’m usually thinking the opposite. When your dealing with a niche keyword often these authority sites will have only a single content thin page on the subject, most of the data may even be copied from the manufacturers specs. When I see this I know its one area I can definitely improve on as I can easily create 40 - 50 quality pages on the subject, it just takes time. You see many of these bigger sites often appear as a default option, they may have little content but google knows they wont be spam. Its important to look at the links to these pages too (often very low) but in my experience if your prepared to create some quality content with a few good links you instantly become a more attractive prospect to google than these default listings.</p>
<h2>Connecting all the pieces</h2>
<p>At the end of all this analysis you have to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together to give a simple yes or no, do I go for the keyword or not? Its important to remember that throughout the whole process you are only looking for an overview of the main factors. Its easy to get lost inspecting every link and piece or content your competition has but unless you work for Google that’s pointless. Also bear in mind that difficultly is a very subjective thing, as some marketers can rank for things you cant and vice-versa. Ultimately its a personal decision, just make sure you can swim before you jump in!</p>

<p>Regardless of what kind of entertainment or media is involved - be it movies, music, television, books or newspapers - fresh stories will always be vital in helping it grow and succeed. So, if you have a website, then you have to make sure that you focus on your <a href="../../blog/category/search-engine-optimisation">search engine</a> ranking. After all, if your website doesn’t have original and new content, then it won’t be able to survive in today’s competitive online world.</p>
<p>Have you ever thought about how search engines find content that respond to people’s search requests? Well, these search engines send out robots that crawl the World Wide Web 24/7 searching it for fresh and new content. Since one of their main goals is to provide great search results, they will usually respond to updated and fresh content.</p>
<p>Due to this need for updated and new material, you will usually see blogs with properly configured SEO content rank the highest on web rankings. And, since a lot of websites use proper blog hosts, they are already naturally configured in ways that search engines will approve of. Of course, their updated comments, feedbacks and article posts will help, as well. In a nutshell, websites without updated content or visitor activities will quickly dry out and become outdated.</p>
<p>Aside from freshness, another vital factor to take into consideration would be your content’s overall <a href="/">SEO </a>performance. The best SEO websites usually use the right kinds of keywords in their content. So, if you wish to get high rankings on search engines with a certain keyword, you need to ensure that you use that phrase in your content several times, so that the keyword will be associated with your site.</p>
<p>Now, this doesn’t mean that you can overuse it, though. if you overuse a keyword on purpose, then search engines will automatically penalize your website and give it a lower score on the search rankings. In other words, taking too much advantage of keywords won’t get you anywhere.</p>
<p>Lastly, it would be vital to provide nothing but unique content on your website. If there are several duplicates of your content on the World Wide Web, then search engines will notice this and give you lower ranking values than you would have gotten from unique content.</p>
<p>So, in general, there are two reasons why you need to have great content. First of all, you have to make sure your visitors stay interested in your content and come back for more.</p>
<p>And, second of all, you want search engines to take notice of your website and give it higher search engine rankings. Remember, though: there is a difference between making your visitors happy and making search engines happy, so try your best to make both of them happy by providing unique content at all times.</p>
