Google announced yesterday that there have been some more changes in their annoying algorithm. A total of 10 changes have been made public but that does not necessarily mean there isn’t any more.

For the full list, visit their inside search blog for the full details. The most important update is most likely the freshness update. It was announced on the 3rd but has been added to this list, this somewhat emphasises how important the freshness factor is.

The freshness update is looking for the most recent content in a nutshell. Google believes that it is more likely for someone to be searching for information that is more up to date, instead of historical information. However some may be using Google to research past events, the majority use Google for recent updates. That is what the update is telling us anyway.

SEOh NO!

No need to panic in terms of SEO, we all know that Google loves content and it always will. This freshness update may have become somewhat of a surprise but this update can be used to an advantage. The majority of people do have a blog which naturally relates to their business, so if you are not already, just make sure your blog is regularly updated.

We have witnessed the devastation caused by Google panda update and we are still recovering from its aftermath. The impacts of Google panda are quite palpable and everyone around is clueless about the future move of Google that might have similar disastrous impacts on their online visibility. Some are voluntarily moving to social networking sites in the wild hope of cozying up with real people, but the results are few and far between. So, this is not a solution. What organizations should do is to stop trying manipulating search engine results by doing some unethical SEO practices. Since Google is getting smarter at hunting out spam and unethical SEO practices, we need to bite the bullet and follow the traditional school of thoughts. Here we are going to share some tips that can help you stay insulated from the future algo changes.

Write Quality: ‘Quality’ is a very evasive term. Just a few days ago, we were in the belief that rewriting an existing article and publishing it in ten thousands of article directories is a great job. But sadly enough this is not the definition of Quality work. Quality work takes time and you have to pay heavily for that. So, you need to understand what quality SEO work is and what not. For example, getting links from free directories or forum posts is definitely not quality work since the links can be obtained easily. So, try to get those links which are really tough to get. Remember one thing, only hard works pay at the end of the day.

Link Network: Time is up to say goodbye to link network. They may prove effective in the short term and can even help you see some improvements as far as the ranking of your website is concerned but its long term impact can be devastating. If Google tracks that source, your website will be penalized for trying to manipulate search engine ranking by buying links. So, you are better off them. Rather you should try your hands at publishing great content or developing a really cool plugin that people will love to share and will in turn help you get some good links from reputed websites. You will be in safe hand and you will no longer have to bother about losing your ranks every now and then.

Anchor Spam: The thing is that Google is trying to reward those websites in term of better search engine visibility which are doing great jobs. Now, as we all know, this is not possible all time, especially when you are just planning to launch a website. So, you need to make it appear that you are doing great jobs by doing SEO in a natural way. By natural way, I mean, you should try to get links for your website from relevant websites and the anchor texts should be as variable as possible. Try every possible match and some terms like – ‘Like’, ‘Contact them’ etc as anchor texts. This will send signals to Google that you are not trying to get links unnaturally.

Try Social Media: Google + is here and Google will try its level best to promote it and they have already made it clear that they will treat Google + as future ranking signal. So, if you do not to lose the favor of Google, you have no other options but to enhance your presence in Google + and other social media platforms. Create a profile in Facebook and then create facebook fanpage. When you are done with them, try to promote your business in ‘natural’ (though I do not have any clear idea of what natural advertisement means), give a try at Facebook Paid advertising and you will easily get thousands of facebook Likes easily. This will surely have positive impacts on your social presence which will have greater impacts on your website’s visibility in search engines.

Give user reasons to Stay: High bounce rate is certainly not anything that you can brag about. Try to reduce bounce rate by making people spend some extra time at your website and that can only be done if you are producing something truly great or interesting. Add some interactive videos or make a try at adding some funny images or post some satirical take on some recent events that people will love to read till the end and the bounce rate will automatically reduce to a minimum.

Exact match Domain: There is a general tendency among emarketers to buy a domain that contains almost all the keywords they want to rank with. This is certainly not a good trend. Suppose you want to rank with Example Company, it is not good practice (I am not saying this goes against Google Guidelines) to buy domains like: example-company.com, examplecompany.co.uk, example-company.net, companyexample.org etc. This looks more like spam and less like a reputed company. Rather than running after keyword rich domains, you should brainstorm and find out a domain name that you would love to promote as a brand name of your organization. Think like Twitter, Facebook and their likes, because they are for sure are not keyword rich.

Though it is almost next to impossible to predict the possible patterns of future ranking systems, you can still make your website future proof with these tips. Good luck.

The big G has finally confirmed it; we have another Panda to deal with. The algorithm has been officially updated, estimated at 500 different updates, and according to Search Engine Land, we are in the age of 2.5.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that no specifics have been released. The type of website, pages or even content have been shared, all that was shared was Googles’ default statement: “We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users. This most recent update is one of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.”

According to WebProNews, the update was rolled out on the 28th of September, but there are a handful of other sources that suggest the Panda was released on the 27th. If we take WebProNews’ statement, then the 2.5 update has had the longest gap we have seen since Aprils’ update.

Panda 1.0 – 2011, 24th Feb

Many SEO’s are just catching wind of the update because as we all know, it can take a while for your site to be affected. Alike all of the previous updates, sites have seen a dramatic change. Now is the time for those that have fallen of the face of the earth to recover, and for those who have passed their Panda test, to sit back and enjoy the massive increase of traffic.

Google has announced that they have updated their blog search algorithm where it’s main purpose is to reduce returning results that came from blogrolling. What is blogrolling you may ask? It is a process of listing links in your blog that are related to your own blog. It is like a promotion of blogs that has similar or related topics with your own blog. For an SEO company blogrolling is a traffic booster but if unchecked this might result in misleading your blog readers. It is within the ambit of the blog etiquette to first read and check the blogs before listing it in your related topics link.

So what is the adverse effect of blogrolling to google search results that they had to update their blog search algorithm? Well, take for example a blog that linked an SEO company blog or an SEO tutorial blog in a blogroll. Where in this blog, daily updates or weblogs are published even though such blog contents are nowhere related to the list name of SEO Company or SEO tutorial or the two lists were not even mentioned in the blog. From here Google will still return the blog post as a match for the very reason that SEO Company and SEO tutorial are in the blogroll and thus Google will interpret it as a part of the blog content. This may in turn cause the searcher to reach a dead end, empty blog content or a blog content that has entirely no connection with the blog-of-interest.

The update blog search algorithm aims to clean-up the Google Blog Search Results and that blog searches will only return relevant results. A very helpful change indeed for those who want to keep track of their brand and for those who are really after relevance in their search. Google has not yet perfected this algorithm and admits that there are still minor tweaks to be done but this update is being welcomed by the web community.

Let’s just wait and see for the final update on this algorithm.

It is a known fact that Google is the number one search engine in the web today and having the privilege to be listed amongst its database of web pages will be an opportunity for you to acquire more conversions on your possible clients which would ultimately mean more sales, thus a good understanding on Googles’ algorithm will spell success in your SEO campaign. But why center on Google? This might be one of the questions that keep on popping in your mind, well the answer to that is quite simple really, and this is because of popularity. Google is the most prominent and most used search engine today; moreover it has ties with other search engines where Google also provides search results.

Now that we have established to an extent Googles’ importance in the world of SEO let us take into account the fact that Google’s or any search engine for that matter constantly changes its algorithms, thus whatever algorithm is true today may not be effective tomorrow, although one this is still sure with regards to Googles’ algorithms, that they were divided in to two major group.

The first group is the on-page factors (keywords) – it is a known fact that keywords are essential in an SEO company’s search engine optimization campaign. Keyword factors in Google includes when, where and how keywords are utilized. In other words how efficient is the optimization of your website using the most relevant keywords and if the keywords are actually present in your web design or website content or in its links.

The keyword factor actually indicates a websites’ page relevance. Page relevance is the determination on how your keywords are relevant to your content as a whole. To illustrate how the algorithm keyword factor relates to page relevance we take the following discussions; Searchers enters about 2-5 word phrases in their search, which will later on, when submitted, be analyzed by Googles’ “search engine” and comparing the words in its indexes which will then display the pages that will contain the entered keywords. The Google algorithm will always interpret a keyword to be the websites’ theme if this word appears in the content more than that of any of the keywords. Using those keywords Google will also search and display other websites that has links to your website most especially if that third party website will have similar keywords with your website.

The second group is the off-page factor (link) which relies mostly on the quantity and quality of websites that contains links to your own website. Links are very important due to the fact that a link to your website is actually being considered by the Google algorithm as a vote to your website. This factor also determines the page importance. So how does it work on Google? Well the Google search engine will analyze the different website that contains links to your website and any links that is found to be pointing to your website is being considered by Google as a form of a “vote” to your website. The more web pages that link to your website will translate to Google interpreting that your website is more important which will then give an effect of bestowing higher page rank value.

Taking these factors into consideration in your SEO campaign will greatly help you in your cause.
