The process of Search engine optimisation have always been considered as a complex process and it is just right to mention such description. SEO indeed is a complex process because of the fact that it entails several complex strategies, there are a lot of strategies available for an SEO consultant and an SEO company to use but such use of search engine optimisation procedure does not guarantee the website owner that his or her website will be placed in the top spot in terms of the search engines search engines results page. This is because the different criteria being used by search engines in order to index or to rank a web page is kept within a secured level of the search engine companies. This means therefore that what ever ranking factors or any criteria being used by the search engines is not readily available and no SEO company or SEO consultant actually knows the said criteria. SEO consultants and SEO companies have termed such criteria to be the search engine algorithm.

Basically a search engine algorithm is a complex step by step process that is used to determine whether a specific website is qualified to be indexed by the search engine or not. This is a complex process because it determines such validity of the website based of possibly hundreds of different criteria or checks and balances. Throughout the years the website marketing through search engine optimisation have grown exponentially, along with this growth is the emergence of different unfair SEO practices known as the black hat SEO, in that area alone the search engine algorithm is actually going to process and check hundreds of possibilities already, this does not even include checking for link integrity which means checking whether the different links that are going into the target website is a quality link or a just another broken or bad link. These are the different functions of a search engine algorithm among its many other different functions.

Search engine optimisation is a continuous process, this can be attributed with the fact that there is a very strong competition between website owners and SEO companies. It is because of this competition that in order for the target website to maintain if not improve it’s ranking it is necessary that there are parameters that are supposed to be kept and constantly improved. However, even with continuous monitoring and maintenance of the target websites’ SEO campaign there are still chances or possibilities that the target websites’ search engine results page ranking starts to diminish. This is the reason why SEO companies and SEO consultants should be aware of the different factors that may affect the search engine results page of the target website.

The following are some possible reasons why some target websites of continuous search engine optimisation may still have diminishing importance. First reason may be is that your website might have been banned. It may be possible that throughout the course of your application of your search engine optimisation strategy that you might have employed black hat SEO techniques or you may have your links built around bad links. Usual indicators that you have been banned are being e-mailed by Google and your website is not being displayed even though you have searched using your URL in the search query box.

Second possible event that may cause the diminishing ranking of your website is the your site may have received a penalty. Unlike from being banned, being penalised may even be more dangerous that being banned because in the latter you may still be notified by the search engine especially Google but for receiving a penalty Google and the other search engine may not offer any reasons at all.

Third possible reason is that your site may have been sandboxed or resandboxed. This means that your websites ability to be ranked is going to be frosen pending the building of your website’s trust profile, or the application of even more white hat SEO strategy to your target website.

Finally, one other reason that may contribute to your diminishing ranking is that your competition have simply gotten better. Remember that there are a lot of websites out there competing for the search engine results page ranking thus every SEO consultant and SEO company

that deals with a competing website would simple increase their strategic approach in order to gain their lead against your target website.

For an SEO company and an SEO consultant researching for viable keywords is the first step going into the SEO campaign. This step is very important because this will define the SEO company’s or SEO consultant’s approach with regards to the SEO campaign. Researching for keywords does not only necessarily mean searching for the common keywords being utilised by competitors or looking for keyword that sounds “cool”. The Keyword quality must also be taken into consideration, how to do this is actually by thinking like a search engine user asking yourself “if I were to do a search for a specific type of product or service what would I key-in the search engine box?”. SEO consultants and SEO companies must always put themselves in the shoes of the search engine users or their prospective audiences. However, it would be very tedious if the SEO company or SEO consultant would test all possible keywords or keyphrases this is the reason why they utilise the Keyword Effectiveness Index or commonly known as KEI in order to determine the value of the keywords.

The Keyword Effectiveness Index is utilised by many SEO companies in order to know the number of competition in the use of such keyword and the number of searches being made using such keywords. The Keyword Effectiveness Index is a very important tool because of the fact that it allows SEO companies and SEO consultants to determine their competition in the use of the keywords and if it is worth using such keywords for Search engine optimisation efforts. Knowing the Keyword Effectiveness Index would help cut down the time for preparation and allows the SEO companies and SEO consultants to proceed with the use of the different strategies during their SEO campaign.

It has been observed that the two most effective SEO strategies are content inclusion and link building. This is because of the fact that content is seen to be an avenue for inserting viable keywords which is being utilised by search engines for indexing websites. On the other hand link building is considered to be very important in the SEO process because of the fact that it creates an avenue for the building of the reputation of the target website. This means that the more quality inbound links to your website the more relevant and reliable it is. Link building could therefore be tantamount to reputation building. This is the main reason why it is important to build links especially inbound links to your website. However, this does not mean that you should accept any types of links there should be several criteria to be followed before accepting any links especially in a reciprocal link process, you have to consider the quality of links over the quantity thus several parameters should be established.

The first thing that you have to consider is the page rank of the website that you want to link with, the Page rank is considered to be the indicator of the webpage’s reputation although this was developed and patented by Google the criteria or standard set by Google is a reliable one. One main strategy being employed by SEO companies and SEO consultants is via submission of links to different directories and by doing submissions to DMOZ or the Open Directory Project this would ensure you of a high quality link which could also give you a page ranking or an increase thereof.

Second thing that you have to do is to constantly monitor the different websites linking to you because you would not want the number of links to diminish without your knowledge and that this would allow you to increase link building efforts should you discover a decrease in your actual links.

The battle for the number one spot in terms of users’ share have been escalating since the last weeks of last year, acquisitions of smaller but potential companies have been made and the biggest deal have been forged. All these happened because both Microsoft and Yahoo would like to topple the search engine giant, Google from its number one position which the search engine company is still holding up to today. On the other hand the search engine giant Google have made its own acquisition of different small venture with the goal of maintaining its lead over the two contenders in the search engine field and also to return to the search engine company former employees who have ventured into their personal business.

The biggest merger in terms of internet companies was that between Yahoo and Microsoft but this merger came under fire as there were contentions that such deal was unfair and biased. The complaint reached the U.S. Department of Justice and proceeded to investigate the case. After the investigation was done the U.S. Department of Justice found the deal to be valid as it is beneficial to Microsoft’s Bing. The Department of Justice further contended that since Microsoft will be able to handle the backend of Yahoo searches Bing will have three times the search queries. This will thus enable Bing to increase the speed of its automated learning capacity which would thus enable the search engine to display more accurate and relevant results. This would thus further mean that searchers or users will be able to find what they are looking for the first time around.

With the steady gain in terms of search engine users Bing is now seen as a valid and strong competitor against the search engine giant Google, and with the approval of the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the merger it is clear that Google is being threatened in its hold to the number one position in terms of user share.

The year two thousand and ten (2010) is starting to become a year of stiff competition. This is because of the fact that Google and Microsoft have constantly developed and re-engineered their search engine services with the deals that they have forged with the microblogging site Twitter, the social media network Facebook and for Microsoft a merger with the search engine pioneer Yahoo. Both companies, Google and Microsoft have also acquired several upstart companies that, if integrated to their search engine, would prove to be beneficial to the company and to functionality of the search engines. The deal that was made by Twitter to both Microsoft and Google have enabled both the operating system and the search engine giant to have a real-time search capability. In addition to that both companies have also made deals with the social media network Facebook which now enables search engine users to be able to use the search engine in searching for people connected with the said social media network.

This constant battle between Google and Microsoft seems to be focusing on who has the best technology integrated to its search engine. It is because of this constant battle that Google have devised several ways to get ahead of their competition. One of these strategies were the acquisition of On2 Technologies. The On2 Technologies is a company that develops video compression technology, this acquisition is seen to help boost Google’s online video capacity most specifically that of YouTube. The acquisition was presumed to be in preparation for Google’s entry to the mobile technology field as On2’s technology also focuses on embedded devices like Adobe Flash and VoIP’s. On2 have existing clients among which are Sony, Adobe, Nokia and Skype. Google announced the acquisition of On2 last year and after threshing out some issues on the amount of acquisition On2 shareholders have agreed to the acquisition price of $124.60 Million.

The recent hacking of Google’s Gmail in China and several other companies have sparked internet companies to be careful and prudent, this means that many of the internet companies have started to increase the security of their site as well as an increase in the observation of spamming and hacking techniques frequency in order to predict the movement or what the spammers are up to. It is in this way that internet companies would be able to prevent occurrences of hacking and spamming incidents. Security companies have the duties of performing the investigation on hacking incidents that happened or to observe and decipher different algorithms used to compromise the security system of the company targeted by hackers and spammers.

Security companies especially that of Websense Inc. have noticed that spammers are trying to target Google Buzz just after it’s launch. Websense Inc. issued an alert on Google Buzz just last week after discovering the first spam attack. Google buzz was an additional tool to the Gmail, Google’s e-mail service. Google designed Google buzz to help users to find information contained in social posts, videos and pictures a lot easier and quicker. The function of Google buzz was to crawl on the different information on social media networks. Since social media networks at constantly being updated and users constantly share information every minute or even every second such information may be pushed back to the deep recesses of the social media networks’ database. This is the reason why Google Buzz was developed it is to be able to give users the power to search for information easily and quickly which were shared through the different social media networks.

To address the privacy issues that were compromised during the spam attack Google have released several tweaks and it is expected that upgrades and tweaks are continuously going to be given in order to plug different weaknesses in the security of Google Buzz.

It has been constantly known that the main strategies in search engine optimisation are the processes of link building and content building. The latter’s purpose is very obvious because of the fact that contents are avenues for inserting keywords that are utilised for the bots to crawl and index. Links are on the other hand being built because of the fact that every link going to the website or your target website is considered to be a vote which means further that such links would determine the relevance and importance of your website.

In a video that was recently released by Matt Cutts, Google’s speaker in terms of its search engine algorithm, he presented an explanation that relevance determination does not always reside within the links. This means that links may or may not always be an indicator of relevance. He presented that tag pages may also be considered as indicators of relevance. He discussed how much tags would contribute to the web page being indexed and ranked apart from the content that is placed within such page. In the discussion that was given by Matt Cutts he presented how Google is all about giving the best user experience.

In the presentation by Matt Cutts it is clearly seen that there are several indicators of relevance and one of which is the tag page however link building is still considered to be the biggest.

The social media network is a place for sharing your thoughts and personal information to your friends or even to the public. Most of the time social media networks are seen to be a process of building a virtual community and to ultimately connect with friends. Several social media networks have been developed for these purposes, the likes of MySpace and Facebook comes into mind. With the increasing number of members of such social media networks daily, there is a possibility that information being shared through these social media networks would amass and some information may already be hard to find. This is where Google had the idea of developing Google Buzz, in order to keep up with your friends in the social media network Google Buzz will keep track of your friends for you. Google buzz basically works by tracking the different updates posted in the social media network by people in your email contact. Gmail users’ are automatically signed in with Google Buzz and as of today remains to be an opt-out program which means that you have to express your none participation with the Google Buzz program or else you remain to be an active member.

The latter is the reason why Eva S. Hibnick a second year law student at Harvard University filed a class suit against Google. Citing that the search engine giant’s new social networking application Google Buzz is disclosing personal information without any form of consent which constitutes a breach of privacy. Hibnick was surprised that she was automatically “following” and being “followed” people that Google has chosen for her without any prior consent. The class action suit filed against Google was based on violation of people’s privacy where damages have already been incurred. Google have yet to give a comment as of today.

Search engine optimisation is found to be based on three strategies these are the research and use of viable keywords, the link building strategies being employed and the content being included in the web page. These three strategies are considered to be very effective which in turn makes SEO companies and SEO consultants tend to forget the other techniques or strategies of search engine optimisation. Although inclusion of relevant contents, use of effective passwords and building of strong links are considered to be enough for a website to be indexed the competition for gaining or being in the first page of search engines requires better search engine optimisation techniques. SEO companies and SEO consultants have to view competition in a way that what an SEO is doing right is already being done by others and thus it is required to go the extra mile in order to get ahead of the competition. Although the other SEO techniques may not have such a big effect on the entire SEO campaign but every little bit of SEO effect could aggregate which would give the website a push towards a higher ranking in the search engine world.

Among these “little” SEO techniques are the inclusion of keywords in the alt attribute of the image tag in the web page. Although the keywords integrated with the image would not be apparent or seen by the users, the web crawlers or the search engine bots will be able to crawl and see the inclusion of such keywords and it will thus include such in the processing of data by the search engines. Another technique that is commonly being ignored is the use of the meta tags in the webpage document. The use of the meta tags was being ignored because of the fact that this strategy was abused and its relevance in the positioning was given a little relevance. However, search engines did not totally remove the importance of the use of meta tags and therefore it still will serve it’s purpose.
