<p><font size="1">With Spring fast approaching - well, not actually
approaching fast enough for us poor weather beaten urchins - the
High Street is dying to get you back into the shops. Some interesting
looks are ready for when the clocks go forward and both Top Shop
and Morgan have got most of these at affordable prices. What's more,
when the designer labels said "dishevelled is de rigeur",
both shops said "yeh alright then" - and came up with
a variety of ways you can look a stylish scruffbag.</font></p>
<p><font size="1"><b>Top Shop</b><br>
Top Shop decided to roll the catwalk out and display its latest
stuff on skinny lovelies in the Oxford Street branch itself, a few
weeks before Christmas - a wise move with the store positively heaving
with customers. The show was styled in association with Dazed &
Confused magazine. Now this may sound like a strange combination
but Top Shop is surely far cooler at the moment, despite the mag's
top hack Hack getting it on with Miss Moss. Dazed needs Top Shop
far more these daze. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Customisation was still in full effect with sequins,
beading, pearls and lace holding court on most garments and accessories.
The bohemian gypsy/hippy chic style will surely be everywhere once
the sun starts shining, and here we saw lace trim camisoles, tiered
ruffle skirts and smocked chiffon blouses. There was also a good
helping of woven tassel belts, puff sleeve cord jackets and ruffle
hem skirts. It seems the Luella effect looks like it's just gonna
run and run. And don't throw away those denim skirts yet - just
buy more in varying lengths and degrees of distress - and they go
with everything.</font></p>

<p><font size="1"><b>Morgan</b><br>
Meanwhile, Morgan are clearly looking to develop. Think Morgan and
what comes to mind - tarty looking clothes for cheap looking women
maybe? However, with an impressive show at the incredibly posh Royal
Opera House in Covent Garden, the label displayed a range of looks
encompassing rustic smocks and and a safari feel, gypsy tops and
ruffled skirts, leopard prints a la YSL, a pirate influence (!),
lots of lace, dramatic latino outfits in blacks and reds and obviously,
yet more denim. And lots of white which will be a big colour this
summer. Which is great because it makes you immediately look more
tanned than you are.</font></p>
<p><font size="1">Despite attempting to add a touch of class to their
latest range, each variation on a look did become progressively
skimpier as each model appeared on the catwalk - as you might expect.
However, with this collection, the flesh on show did actually have
a sense of making sense as part of the overall look. The label clearly
knows its customer base is probably not into the Phoebe Philo "less
is more" concept. Oh well...at least it's feminine.</font></p>
