<p><font size="1">Camden commuters could be stepping on to the tram
again if plans supported by the Cross River Partnership, which aims
to regenerate the riverside area of central London, come to fruition.
              </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Supporters of the plan cite successful schemes in
Sheffield, Manchester and Croydon where the introduction of trams
has reduced car traffic by around 20%. Under the plan, trams would
run every few minutes during peak times and the journey from Camden
to time from Camden to Aldwych would be an estimated 12 minutes.
The system could run as far south as Brixton and Peckham. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">But 2007 is the earliest date that trams could start
running in London, so for the moment commuters will have to continue

have been closed down in the last 10 weeks after a series of major
raids by police and housing officers. The crackdown came in response
to concerns from residents about increased levels of prostitution
and drug dealing on the estate. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Dave Barnes, estate manager for Camden Council,

<p><font size="1"> Camden Council is to be one of the first local
authorities in Britain to charge utility companies daily rent for
digging up the highway. Firms will have to pay about 500 per day
to dig holes in roads and pavements. Councils will keep the revenue
which they will be allowed to spend on transport. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">This scheme will offer an alternative to the current
system of fines which has been widely criticised as ineffective.
Critics say utility firms can easily negotiate generous time allowances
which mean they avoid penalty fines for overshooting work schedules.

<p><font size="1">Motorists organisations the RAC and the AA both

<p><font size="1">But Kentish Town ward councillor Bill Budd, speaking
to the Camden Chronicle, said, "The drug problem in Camden is bad

<p><font size="1">The main opposition to the extension came from the

when it emerged that only 14 people had attended their annual general
meeting. The Council received only ten letters of objection. </font></p>

            <p><font size="1"> A 31 year-old man died of a massive heart attack
after night out in the pub with friends when he took cocaine. St
Pancras Coroner's Court heard that Charlie John of Camden Town felt
ill when he got home and went to bed. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">The next morning his partner of fourteen years,
Catherine McCarthy, phoned an ambulance. Mr John was found to be
dead when he arrived at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead. </font></p>
<p><font size="1">Consultant Pathologist Dr Michael Jarmulowicz said
that during the post mortem he had found evidence of heart damage
which would be more usual in a much older man. This could be connected
to cocaine use. Dr Jarmulowicz said, "It is well-recognised that
cocaine, particularily sustained use, can cause heart disease."</font></p>
<p><font size="1"> Ms McCarthy told the court that her partner had
experienced pains in his arms for two years which could have been
indicative of heart disease but that he had refused to see a doctor.

<p><font size="1">Speaking to Time Out, John Henry, professor of accident
and emergency medicine at St Mary's Hospital said, "At 31, people
do not usually die of heart disease. If you take cocaine, you are
twenty-four times more likely to have a heart attack than the next
