            <p><font size="1">London's 23rd international festival of contemporary 
              dance features the return of two 'legends of modern choreography', 
              alongside a selection of performances and installations exploring 
              the relationship between dance and new technology. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">Dance Umbrella 2001 also includes a wide range of 
              new work by acclaimed British and international choreographers in 
              performances by some of the very best dance companies from around 
              the world.</font></p>

            <p><font size="1">The festival kicks off at the Barbican Centre with 
              the return of Israel's Batsheva Dance Company's after an absence 
              of eight years with the London premiere of Ohad Naharin's full-length 
              new work, Sabotage Baby. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">New York's Mark Morris Dance Group and Germany's 
              Ballett Frankfurt both make welcome returns to the festival at Sadler's 
              Wells with new and inventive choreography. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">The Mark Morris Dance Group perform three London 
              premieres and the World premiere of Mark Morris' full company piece 
              set to Robert Schumann's Quintet in E Flat, whilst the world renowned 
              Ballett Frankfurt perform the London premieres of Artifact and Eidos:Telos, 
              two of artistic director William Forsythe's full length masterpieces. 
              </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">Other festival highlights include a British debut 
              for Philadelphia's Rennie Harris Puremovement ,with a powerful hip-hop 
              version of Romeo & Juliet at the QEH, and Dance Umbrella's West-End 
              debut with Richard Move's extravagent re-incarnation of Martha Graham 
              at the Criterion Theatre. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">There are festival debuts at the QEH for Canada's 
              O Vertigo, with Ginette Lauren's visually stunning Luna, and Fr�d�ric 
              Flamand's Belgian based Charleroi Danses/Plan K with Moving Target. 
              While at The Place: Robin Howard Dance Theatre, Canadian Compagnie 
              Flak debut with Venezuelan-born Jos� Navas' Perfume de Gardenias 
              and D�j� Donn� present the London premiere of Aria Spinta. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">There is also a welcome festival return at The Place 
              for Soweto-based soloist Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe's triple-bill and, 
              after a 16 year absence, the long awaited return of David Gordon's 
              New York-based Pick-Up Performance Company with the London premiere 
              of FAMILY$DEATH@ART.COMedy. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">The British contingent features a London premiere 
              and a Dance Umbrella co-production from The Michael Clark Dance 
              Company at Sadler's Wells, including a collaboration with contemporary 
              artist Sarah Lucas, and Richard Alston Dance Company opening the 
              Robin Howard Dance Theatre at the newly renovated Place with two 
              London premieres. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">Dance Umbrella commissions include Russell Maliphant 
              Company, performing a double bill of new work, as well as support 
              for Ricochet Dance Company's latest commission from Stephen Petronio. 
              Whilst at the ICA, Jonathan Burrows & Jan Ritsema perform the British 
              premiere of Weak Dance Strong Questions. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">There are also festival debuts for three Jerwood 
              Choreography Award winners, Fin Walker (Walker Dance) and Charles 
              Linehan at The Place and Carol Brown at Greenwich Dance Agency. 
              Charles Linehan Company performs a Dance Umbrella commissioned London 
              premiere, Walker Dance a double-bill of work new to London, while 
              GDA hosts Carol Brown's collaboration with visual artist Esther 
              Rolinson. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">&quot;This year's festival includes Umbrella's first 
              Promenade Performances at Sadler's Wells. This means that you can 
              see both the Mark Morris Dance Group, whose programme includes a 
              World premiere, and The Michael Clark Company's stunning new show, 
              for as little as �5 each, that should leave you with plenty of cash

            <p><font size="1">Treasury of the World: Jewelled Arts of India in 
              the age of the Mughals<br>

            <p><font size="1">'Jewelled Arts of India in the age of the Mughals' 
              has 300 pieces of stunning Indian jewellery dating from the time 
              of the Great Mughals, who ruled India from the mid-16th to the early 
              18th century. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">The exhibition features extravagant jewellery, such 
              as earrings, pendants, rings and bracelets as well as daggers with 
              jewel-encrusted scabbards and hilts, jewelled boxes, cups and gaming 
              pieces. A central piece is the famous Ruby Dagger with a gold scabbard 
              and a hilt studded with more than 2,000 gems. </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">'Struck on Gold' shows the coins that the The Mughal 
              emperors struck. They are startlingly beautiful, with elegant Arabic 
              inscriptions and verses of Persian poetry. Unusually for Islamic 
              coins, they include portraits of Emperors as well as signs of the 
              Zodiac. There are also enormous coins which were intended for presentation. 
              </font></p>
            <p><font size="1">The exhibition uses the coins to examine the origin 
              of the great Mughal leaders, the spread of their empire and the 
              different currency and dating systems that were used. </font></p>

              is in the West Wing Exhibition Gallery, Room 28 Admission costs
