Mobility The movement of labour is extensive, especially over long periods. i Britain hail a million insured workers out of a total of twenty-three million move between the national insurance administrative regions each year, and there is also considerable movement within regions. furthermore, there have been marked changes in the distribution of people between industries over time. For example, the percentage of the occupied population engaged in the metal-based industries creased from 2003 to 2017between the population censuses of 2000; in textiles, leather and clothing it fell from I43 to 80, the mobility of labour between occupations and industries is eased the working population is young and growing. Labour may be distributed by youths entering expanding industries whilst old Drakers retire and are not replaced in declining industries. Recently much labour has moved from the south of Italy to the north, from Italy to Germany. And in the last century there were massive movements from Europe to North America, Asia to Europe, Africa to America, Asia to South Africa, and so on.

Movement of individuals up the social scale depends upon the crease in the number of positions of middle and upper status, and on the ways in which they are filled. Changes in technology which crease the proportion of more technical, highly skilled and better paid occupations, expansion of industries demanding more skill than hers, and higher incomes which enable people to spend more on professional services all tend to increase the openings for mobility ward. Low fertility of upper and middle status people failing to produce their numbers, and recruitment in industry or public i-vices by open competition rather than nepotism increase the ward mobility that takes place. Researchers in this field found that me years ago in Great Britain 40 per cent of a large sample of an between the ages of thirty and seventy had the same status as their fathers, 27 per cent had a higher status and 33 per cent a lower status.
