A need was identified to standardise varying approaches by local planning authorities across Wales to parking requirements when considering proposals for development.
Four regional transport alliances – Sewta, Swwitch, Taith and Tracc – were created when the Welsh Assembly Government decided it wanted four Regional Transport Plans for Wales. Each alliance is a consortia of councils working together.
CSS Wales has taken the opportunity for standardisation by producing the Parking Standards Wales 2008 document to enable each regional transport alliance to recommend the document to its constituent local planning authorities. It is hoped that each of the four regional consortia will take up these parking standards
The aim is to assist developers in making planning applications, but also to prevent them from playing off the policies of one council against another. The Parking Standards represent current best practice and they are fully compliant with current Government policy.
